Border Collie
- The Border Collie is a medium sized breed with a height of 18 – 22 inches from shoulder to ground and can weigh on average 50 lbs with a life expectancy of 9 to 17 years with an average of 12 years.
- Some common health issue for Border Collie are hip dysplasia, Collie eye anomaly (CEA) and epilepsy with a leading cause of death being
cancer. CEA is generally genetic with breeders able to test so as not to produce pups with this disorder; although, this disorder is usually mild and rarely significantly alters vision.
- As with all dogs regular teeth cleanings are a must especially for older dogs. Their teeth can become just as sensitive as humans. Because they have longer hair, regular grooming is necessary as they do shed all year.
- As a member of the herding group, Border Collie’s need lots of exercise and fit in well with families who can provide for their needs of walking & playing. This breed is happiest with job to do whether its Frisbee, fetching or a game chase…Great for not only the dog but, their master as well.
- As with all pet services whether the Breeder you choose, the veterinarian, Professional Groomer, and boarding ensure you have thoroughly vetted the people. Visit the Groomer facility and staff; see exactly where your dog will sleep if boarding and find out how much time they will spend with your dog – feeding time, how often do they take dogs for a walk, etc.
