Beagle
- Beagles, a member of the hound group, have a median longevity of 12 to 15 years, typical of a dog their size. Males range in weight from 22 to 25 lbs. with female a little less with a height ranging 13 to 16 inches.
- A Beagles height makes them great ground scenting dogs; they have one of the best developed senses of smell of any dog. As a result they are a perfect choice Custom & Border agencies as well as other law enforcement detection groups.

Happy Beagle
- Beagles have a very passive nature which makes them a remarkable dog and wonderful family pet. They are somewhat prone to weight gain as a result and should be exercised…walking is best and their favorite pastime. The unfortunate side to the Beagles gentle passive nature is that they are the dog of choice when it comes to animal testing…about 98% of dogs used in animal testing are Beagles.
- Two conditions in particular are unique to Beagles – Funny Puppy where they are slow to develop which can eventually lead to weak underdeveloped legs (dwarfism) and a crooked back. Although, normally Beagles are health they are prone to illness like every dog.
- With Beagles’ long floppy ears they can develop infections so keep them clean and check for any abnormalities. Also, have your veterinarian check the eyes; Beagles can develop a condition where eyelashes can grow into the eye causing tearing.
- As with all dogs regular teeth cleanings are a must especially for older dogs. Their teeth can become just as sensitive as humans. Even though Beagles have shorter hair they do shed, so regular grooming is necessary, but quite easy.
- As with all pet services whether the Breeder you choose, the veterinarian, Professional Groomer, and boarding ensure you have thoroughly vetted the people. Visit the Groomer facility and staff; see exactly where your dog will sleep if boarding and find out how much time they will spend with your dog – feeding time, how often do they take dogs for a walk, etc.
